So i have been really interested in crowd funding and the power of the audience to decide content as a result of teaching so much Media theory at AS and A2 level. The 'We media and democracy' topics along with Internet and convergence culture generally has always interested me.
I wanted to combine these recent interests alongside theory I studied at university in the 90s from Frankfurt school left wing intellectuals. I decided to look at crowdfunding from the sceptical conversations that arose from discussions in my class with teenagers who failed to see the value in creating media or products yourself away from the confines of an industry and Im trying to see if there is any impact at all on media audiences and the public at large from a media that could potentially free itself from the traditional models of media ownership.
About Me
Im currently a Media Studies, Film Studies and English teacher teaching in a comprehensive school and sixth form in East London, UK. This blog is the work behind the first project of my current MA in Creative Media Education that I am studying at the Centre for Excellence in Media Practice at the University of Bournemouth.
